Project KL-A2 is a magnificent residence designed for a plot size of 450sqm in Mayfair Gardens, Awoyaya, a serene and lush estate in Lagos. The spatial arrangements emphasized the judicious use of space both internally and externally and the provision of basic infrastructure - guard/security house, swimming pool and parking for three cars, was not limited by land size.
The picturesque views of the project details the amazing contemporary features which maximized the constraints of the plot size while still maintaining generous spatial arrangements within and without.
The use of simple forms and symmetry keeps the facades modern and chic. The interior aesthetics is an elegant arrangement of well-structured spaces; the living room on the ground floor with a dining section adjoins an open plan kitchen which showcases a cozy welcoming ambience.
The open riser staircase brings about a seamless unification of the ground and upper floor spaces. The upper floor is an intricate assembly of generous sized bedrooms ensuite with a warm and intimate family lounge at the top of the stairway landing
Some significant details which cause this home to stand out include:
The positioning of the main entrance door by the side (i.e. off the front wall) is deliberate to ensure privacy and protection from effects of direct rainfall on surfaces. The dark grey wall section towers above the entire building shell, thus providing an imposing yet appealing look while the glass balustrades of the balconies and the large French windows provide visual continuity and much needed natural lighting.
With the simplicity of the forms implemented and the natural colours maintained, there is no boring aspect to any view of the building. The dark grey block which extends over the lower walls provides shade for the windows and door below it; same as all other cantilevers employed in this well-articulated design.
The clean lines of the facades show the juxtaposition of squares and rectangles; their arrangement is like sweet harmony with subtle blends at their meeting points. The use of dark grey and white façade colors is classy and the burnt brick facing on the receding wall of adjoining balconies provide the perfect mix of color. Long and wide expanses of window glazing bring in clear blue skies and the feeling of freedom is euphoric.
Balconies with glass balustrades (one of the signatures of this home) on three sides of the residence make for an extension of the inside into the outside leading to a connection to and appreciation of the natural serene environment; all the upper floor bedrooms enjoy this asset.
Lovely sit-outs for the enjoyment of cool evenings by the poolside are made possible despite the constraints of size. Even while upstairs and overlooking the pool, one can be part of the cool ambience and heartwarming scenery.
